Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas Users Alert - LPG Subsidy May Stop in 7 Days Over Income Rule

Many LPG consumers using Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas are reportedly receiving messages related to their domestic LPG subsidy. These messages are linked to income-based verification under the government’s subsidy rules.

According to reports, oil marketing companies are identifying consumers who may be receiving LPG subsidy despite having a household income above the permitted limit.

Customers who receive such messages may need to respond within seven days if they believe the information is incorrect.

If no response is submitted within the given time, the LPG subsidy may be stopped.

What Is LPG Subsidy?

LPG subsidy is financial support provided by the government to eligible domestic cooking gas consumers. Under the PAHAL Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG scheme, consumers buy LPG cylinders at market price, and the subsidy amount is transferred directly to their linked bank accounts.

The subsidy applies to domestic LPG cylinders, including 14.2 kg and 5 kg cylinders. Oil marketing companies such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum provide subsidy benefits to eligible customers using Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas.

At present, eligible consumers reportedly receive a subsidy of Rs 24.50 per domestic LPG cylinder after delivery.

Why Can LPG Subsidy Be Stopped in 7 Days?

The latest concern comes from reported SMS alerts being sent to consumers whose income records may show earnings above the eligibility limit.

According to the message, if income tax records show that the consumer or a linked family member has a gross taxable income above Rs 10 lakh, they must respond within seven days if they want to dispute the finding.

Consumers are reportedly asked to contact the toll-free number 1800-2333-555 or register a grievance on the portal of their respective oil marketing company.

If no response is received within the time limit, the LPG subsidy may be discontinued.

Who Is Eligible for LPG Subsidy?

To receive LPG subsidy under PAHAL, the consumer must meet certain conditions.

The person must be a domestic LPG consumer with an active LPG connection. The consumer and spouse must have taxable income below Rs 10 lakh in the previous financial year.

Since January 2016, LPG subsidy is not available to consumers whose taxable income is more than Rs 10 lakh. The rule also applies if the spouse’s taxable income crosses the limit.

Consumers should also ensure that their LPG connection is linked with their bank account. Aadhaar linking is preferred for Direct Benefit Transfer, but customers without Aadhaar can also join the scheme by submitting bank account details to their LPG distributor.

Documents Required for LPG Subsidy

Consumers may need certain documents to receive or continue LPG subsidy benefits. These include Aadhaar details, residential proof, LPG consumer ID, current refill slip, bank passbook copy and cancelled cheque.

Some commonly used forms include Aadhaar submission forms, bank linking forms and LPG ID documents. Customers should check with their LPG distributor or oil company portal for the exact requirement.

How to Receive LPG Subsidy Under PAHAL

Once a consumer is enrolled under the PAHAL scheme, the process is simple. The customer books a domestic LPG cylinder and pays the market price at the time of purchase or delivery.

After the cylinder is delivered, the subsidy amount is credited directly to the consumer’s linked bank account.

There are two main ways to receive the subsidy. The first option is through Aadhaar linking, where the Aadhaar number is connected with the bank account and LPG consumer number. The second option is for customers without Aadhaar, who can provide bank account details directly to the LPG distributor.

What Should Consumers Do Now?

Consumers who receive an LPG subsidy warning message should not ignore it. They should carefully verify whether the income details mentioned are correct.

If they believe the message is wrong, they should contact the official toll-free number or raise a grievance through the oil marketing company’s portal within seven days.

Customers should also avoid clicking suspicious links and should only use official websites or verified customer support numbers.

Conclusion

The reported LPG subsidy verification drive may affect Indane Gas, Bharat Gas and HP Gas consumers whose household income crosses the Rs 10 lakh limit.

Eligible consumers should make sure their Aadhaar, bank account and LPG connection details are updated. Those who receive a seven-day subsidy warning should respond quickly if they want to dispute the income record.

The key message is simple: check your LPG subsidy status, verify your documents and act before the deadline to avoid losing the benefit.
