The Bharatiya Janata Party registered a major victory in the Haryana municipal corporation polls, winning key civic bodies including Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat.
The party also secured an important win in Sampla, considered a stronghold of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini described the results as a strong endorsement of public trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the BJP government’s development agenda.
BJP Records Strong Civic Poll Performance
The BJP performed strongly across several municipal corporations, councils and committees. The party retained control in major urban centres and dominated ward-level contests in multiple areas.
In Panchkula, BJP candidate Shyamlal Bansal defeated Congress candidate Sudha Bhardwaj by a margin of 36,252 votes.
In Sonipat, BJP’s Rajiv Jain defeated Congress rival Kamal Dewan by 23,247 votes. In Ambala, BJP candidate Akshita Saini defeated Congress candidate Kulwinder Kaur by 21,358 votes.
The BJP already had sitting mayors in Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat, and the latest results strengthened the party’s hold over these civic bodies.
BJP Wins in Hooda Bastion Sampla
One of the most politically significant results came from Sampla municipal committee, known as a stronghold of Congress leader and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
BJP candidate Praveen won the president’s post in Sampla by defeating Independent candidate Ankit by 687 votes. The Congress did not field a candidate in Sampla, but the BJP still projected the result as a major political message.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the victory showed that people no longer trusted Hooda and had rejected what he called Congress’s politics of falsehood.
Congress Faces Major Setback
The Haryana civic poll results came as a setback for the Congress, which has been out of power in the state for several years. The party failed to make a major impact in the key municipal corporation contests.
In Ambala Municipal Corporation, the BJP won 16 wards, Congress won three, and one ward went to an Independent. In Sonipat, the BJP secured 17 wards, while Congress won five. In Panchkula, the BJP won 17 wards, Independents won two, and Congress managed only one ward.
In some municipal wards, Congress candidates reportedly trailed behind Independents, highlighting the scale of the party’s challenge at the local level.
Independent Candidate Wins in Uklana
While the BJP dominated most contests, Uklana produced a surprise result. Independent candidate Rima Soni, a 23-year-old graduate, defeated BJP’s Nikita Goyal by 2,806 votes to win the municipal committee president post.
Soni, who had been preparing for competitive exams before contesting the election, thanked the people of Uklana for supporting her. She said she came from an ordinary family and was grateful for the trust placed in her.
Congress had not fielded a candidate in Uklana and had backed Soni in the contest.
BJP Leaders Credit Development Agenda
BJP leaders celebrated the civic poll results, with workers distributing sweets and holding victory celebrations. Chief Minister Saini said the results reflected people’s approval of the policies and programmes of the BJP government.
He said voters had rejected Congress and other opposition parties because they were focused on criticism rather than public welfare. Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli also thanked voters and said the result in Sampla showed the public mood against Congress.
In Sonipat, BJP’s victorious mayoral candidate Rajiv Jain credited the win to the party’s politics of development.
Other Key Results
In Dharuhera, BJP candidate Satyanarayan, also known as Ajay Jangra, defeated Independent candidate Babu Lal by 6,236 votes.
In Rewari municipal council, BJP’s Vinita Pippal defeated Congress candidate Neharika by 21,445 votes.
These wins further added to the BJP’s strong performance across Haryana’s civic bodies.
Conclusion
The Haryana municipal corporation poll results delivered a major boost to the BJP and a serious setback to Congress. With victories in Panchkula, Ambala, Sonipat, Rewari, Dharuhera and Sampla, the BJP strengthened its position in urban local bodies across the state.
The party’s win in Sampla, seen as Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s bastion, became one of the biggest political talking points of the election.
While Independent candidate Rima Soni’s victory in Uklana stood out as a surprise, the overall result clearly favored the BJP.
The civic poll outcome is likely to energize the BJP’s state unit while forcing Congress to reassess its strategy in Haryana.
