NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Adds Financial Pressure and Anxiety for Aspirants After Cancellation

The cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination has left thousands of medical aspirants facing new financial, emotional and academic pressure.

The exam, held on May 3, was cancelled after allegations of a paper leak surfaced. A re-examination has now been announced, but many students say the burden of the failure has fallen directly on them.

For several aspirants, the exam was supposed to mark the end of a long and expensive preparation journey. Many had already left coaching cities and returned to their hometowns, believing the process was over.

Now, they have been forced to come back, arrange accommodation again and continue preparation for another several weeks.

Students Forced to Return to Coaching Cities

The re-exam has created major difficulties for students who had vacated hostels or rental rooms after the first exam. In cities like Bhopal, many rooms were quickly allotted to new students or working professionals, leaving returning NEET aspirants struggling to find affordable places to stay.

This has added unexpected costs for families already stretched by years of coaching expenses. Many NEET aspirants spend between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh on coaching, hostel fees, food and transport during preparation. The re-exam has pushed these costs even higher.

Aspirants Battle Rent, Food and Travel Costs

Kartika, a NEET aspirant from Khurai in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, had been preparing in Bhopal for two years while staying in a hostel. After the May 3 exam, she returned home. But after the cancellation, she had to come back to Bhopal.

By then, her hostel room had already been given to another student. She is now staying in a rented flat that costs Rs 15,000 per month. Her coaching centre is also farther away, forcing her to travel daily by bus.

Earlier, her hostel mess handled meals. Now, she has to cook for herself while also preparing for the re-exam. She said she is under heavy mental pressure and feels she has to begin the exam process all over again.

Families Under Financial Pressure

Another aspirant, Priya from Khandwa, said the re-exam has increased stress on her family. She has also been preparing in Bhopal for two years. Her father, who works as a painter, had taken a loan to pay for her coaching and living expenses.

Now, the family must again arrange money for rent, food, travel and other study-related costs. Priya fears that these financial struggles may affect her dream of becoming a doctor.

For many families, NEET preparation is not just an academic commitment. It is a major financial sacrifice.

Coaching Centres Say Students Are Still Prepared

Coaching institutes say most students remain academically ready because the original exam was held recently. Some coaching operators have also said they will not charge extra fees for re-exam preparation.

However, accommodation remains a serious challenge. Hostel operators say rooms are usually filled quickly after students vacate them, especially in education hubs where demand remains high throughout the year.

Trust in the Exam System Under Question

The NEET UG 2026 cancellation has once again raised questions about the credibility and security of major entrance examinations. Students and parents say repeated paper leak allegations weaken trust in the system.

Many aspirants feel they should not have to suffer extra costs and mental stress because of administrative failures. For them, the challenge is no longer only about cracking NEET. It is also about surviving uncertainty.

Conclusion

The NEET UG 2026 re-exam has placed thousands of aspirants in a difficult position. Students who had already completed the exam must now return to coaching cities, pay for accommodation again and restart their preparation under pressure.

While coaching centres may support students academically, the financial and emotional burden remains heavy.

For many medical aspirants, the re-exam is not just another test — it is a reminder of how uncertainty in the system can directly affect dreams, families and futures.
